Editorial: Ovation Awards a sampling of region’s excellence

Jay Albrecht
Friday, Jul 6, 2012

Well, it’s that time of year again. For the fifth consecutive year, we’re proud to bring to you our Ovation Award winners for the Upper Cumberland region.

This year, we received more nominations than ever before, so the choices were sometimes difficult to make. However, in most instances, the choices were easy, as our award winners are extremely deserving and the cases are strong for each.

The Ovation Awards are more than just recognizing individual Upper Cumberland businesses and business people, however. They are a celebration of what makes our region so positively different than almost any other. It takes all of our businesses, large and small and of all types, to make this economic machine hum to precision – or at least as close to perfect as any other right now. As I’ve said before in this space, we are extremely lucky to call the Upper Cumberland our home for personal and business interests.

These awards each year are a sampling of businesses and people who excel in helping drive the overall engine. Over the years, we’ve recognized dozens of award winners for their achievements and we’ll continue to do so. But it is just a small portion of what makes us great!

In all categories and nearly every industry, we could name countless “winners” worthy of recognition for their work. From health care and education to manufacturing and retail, we are blessed with quality options and opportunities most communities don’t enjoy. A large player in making that happen for us are the Chambers of Commerce and their dedicated staff members in each of our 14 counties – they are the ones helping to take care of our current businesses and our future growth potential. A special thanks to each and every one of them for so much behind-the-scenes work that often goes largely unnoticed.

From all of us at the Upper Cumberland Business Journal, we congratulate the 2012 winners on a job well done! But the true winner is the Upper Cumberland region and those of us who live, work and play here. Let’s not take what we have for granted!
