BREAKING: Project Victor announcement set for Friday

Liz Engel Clark
Monday, Aug 4, 2014

COOKEVILLE – An official announcement concerning Project Victor, an industrial prospect that's been eying Cookeville for months, is expected to happen on Friday.

The Cookeville-Putnam County Chamber of Commerce issued a "save-the-date" this afternoon. The notice only makes mention of a "special economic development announcement" and doesn't refer to any specific prospect by name, but sources told the UCBJ it's related to Victor, an unknown company that's been clouded in secrecy as the related parties have been working to cement the deal.

The announcement will take place at 10:15 a.m. at the Dogwood Park performance pavilion across from city hall. Gov. Bill Haslam is scheduled to be in Cumberland County later that morning for a chamber event, but there was no official word from his office if he would be attending.

Project Victor could bring 700 jobs by Dec. 31, 2020, and an initial investment of $100 million, if plans are finalized to construct a distribution facility outside the Highlands Business Park in Cookeville at Mine Lick Creek and Old Stewart roads. A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has already been approved between Victor, the Cookeville city council and its industrial development board.
