Celebrating the opening of the Little Free Library in Crossville are, from left, Mica Simmons, Sylvan Learning Center staff; Monica Mowery, Sylvan Prep Academy; Thomas Allingham, student at Sylvan Prep Academy; Gil Buffkin, Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI) MAKE Camp mentor; Holly Hanson, CBI director; Tom McDunn, CBI MAKE Camp mentor; and Bill Savarese, CBI MAKE Camp mentor.

CROSSVILLE – A Little Free Library (LFL) is now available just outside the Cumberland Business Incubator (CBI) on the Roane State Community College campus on Cook Road in Crossville. Little Free Libraries promote reading in a community and are available for anyone to use. The concept is “take a book, return a book.”

The library was constructed during the CBI Make Camp under the mentorship of Gil Buffkin. The design and drawings for the LFL were developed by students at the Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crossville. The Crossville Rotary Club paid for the official registration of the CBI Little Free Library.

“Building the Little Free Library as part of our Make Camp this summer allowed the campers to learn from a skilled mentor how to use tools and construct something to give back to the community," Holly Hanson, director of the Cumberland Business Incubator, said. "We plan to continue to include a community project in future Make Camps.”

The initial books for the LFL were donated by John Keisling of the Sylvan Learning Center and the Art Circle Public Library.  A log book inside the Little Free Library records comments from readers who visit and enjoyed reading a book.

The goal for Little Free Libraries is to have the same number of libraries around the world that Andrew Carnegie had, 2,510, and more. For more information about Little Free Libraries, visit www.littlefreelibrary.org or http://vimeo.com/72957294.

For more information, contact Hanson at (931) 456-4910. The Cumberland Business Incubator is located at 2569 Cook Road, Crossville.
